Third Sunday of Advent

The first Sunday in Advent we lit the candle of – Hope:

We light the candle of Hope– to remind us of the hope we have in the one whose birth we celebrate.

The second Sunday of Advent we lit the candle of – Peace.

We light the candle of Peace-to remind us that christ will come again and bring to the world everlasting peace.

The third candle of Advent is the candle of Joy.

It reminds us of the Joy Mary felt when the angel Gabriel told her that a special child would be born to her — a child who would save and deliver all who would believe on Him .

The Christ, son of the living God is our joy-to all who would believe on him. He will one day come for us.

God wants us to be filled with joy. As the shepherds watched their flocks in the fields by night, the angel of the Lord came to them and said” I bring you good tidings of great joy, do not be afraid. For unto you is born this day a savior who is Christ the Lord.

As we light the candle of joy let us remember that Christ brings us the promise of a new life-that life is in Him. He is the giver of all that is good and perfect. God’s greatest gift to us is his only son Jesus.

Jesus is the source of our Joy.

6 And it happened that while they were there, ⌊the time came⌋ for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son, and wrapped him in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger because there was no place for them in the inn. 8 And there were shepherds in the same region, living out of doors and keeping watch, guarding over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord stood near them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and ⌊they were terribly frightened. 10 And the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring good news to you of great joy which will be for all the people: 11 that today a Savior, who is Christ the Lord, was born for you in the city of David.
